When sci-fi remakes get it right
'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' (1978)
What's it about? A small town doctor discovers that the population of his community is being replaced by emotionless alien duplicates, one by one as he struggles to find allies who haven't already been infected.
Why's it better? Don Siegel's 1956 version tapped into Communist paranoia that shrouded its era, but given a then-modern twist Philip Kaufman's eerie direction gave Donald Sutherland one of his most memorable roles and provided a truly shocking ending.
