The 2000s was a hard decade for the once squeaky-clean pop star. Her extremely public breakdown spilled out into the streets in the form of fights with the paparazzi, shaving all of her hair off, baracading herself in her mansion as helicopters circled overhead like vultures and a disastrous ‘comeback’ attempt at the VMAs.

To top it all off, her younger sister Jamie Lynn got pregnant aged 16. On the subject of children, her own were removed from her care due to her increasingly reckless behaviour which saw her do everything from kissing Madonna to crashing cars. Her failed attempts at marriage added further fuel to the media furnace.
