The best and worst of Britain's post-war PMs
9. Edward Heath
Major's rise in the table meant Edward Heath plummeted to ninth position of post-war PMs. With the slogan 'Who Governs Britain', Heath called for an election in February 1974 which resulted in a hung parliament, and after unsuccessful coalition talks Heath resigned. He suffered further embarrassment in 1975 as Conservative party leader.
