Used in research to battle: HIV
The Australian red-eyed tree frog is helping researchers at Vanderbilt University in Nashville understand the HIV virus.
They found that the frog's skin secretes peptides which combat the virus without affecting the friendly T-cells which aids in immunity. Other biologists also discovered that protein in frog spawn attacks tumours.
