Why fairytales are no longer bedtime stories
2. 'Hansel and Gretel'
The fairy tale of German origin sees two children lost in the woods who come across a house made of gingerbread which is owned by a wicked witch. She then captures them and tries to fatten up Hansel with sweets so she can eat him.
Although there is a happy ending almost one in five adults said they had abandoned telling their children this story because Hansel and Gretel were abandoned in a forest.
