Why fairytales are no longer bedtime stories
7. 'Sleeping Beauty'
In this beautiful story, first published in 1697, Princess Aurora pricks her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and is put into an eternal sleep. There she must remain until true love's kiss breaks the spell. There are dungeons, dragons, a wicked witch and good fairies - all in all a perfect fairytale if ever there was one.
A spokeswoman for TheBabyWebsite.com, who conducted the survey said: "It's a great shame that so many of today's PC mums and dads are rejecting fairytales which have stood the test of time, entertaining children for hundreds or thousands of years."
