The greatest record labels ever
Sun Records
Based in Memphis Tennessee and founded in 1953 Sun is regarded by many as the home of rock and roll. Sun was the first label to which Elvis signed - though foolishly his contract was later sold on - and filled their books with other rock alumni from Roy Orbinson to Johnny Cash.
Sun also was key in bringing the recordings of African-Americans to the masses long before anyone else. In 2001 Suns contribution was widely recognised with the release of the compilation album, 'Good Rockin' Tonight, The Legacy of Sun Records' which featured the likes of Paul McCartney and Robert Plant.
Listen to this:Elvis - That's All Right Mama (1954)
Johnny Cash - Cry, Cry, Cry / Hey Porter (1955)
Jerry Lee Lewis - Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On (1957)
