Two-headed dogs
A Soviet surgeon in 1954 unveiled a two-headed dog made from grafting the head, shoulders and front legs of a puppy on to the neck of a mature German shepherd.
The two heads behaved in exactly the same way, so if one was hot so was the other. None of the 20 dogs lasted longer than a month but the work paved the way for human heart transplant surgery.
