Fed up with the modern society's trivialities and frantic pace, promising graduate Christopher McCandless donated his bank account ($24,000) to Oxfam and began travelling under the name of Alexander Supertramp, hoping to reach Alaska and live a life of pure solitude. He reached his goal, and died there from starvation.

McCandless kept a diary of his adventures which were later discovered and adapted by Jon Krakaurer for his book 'Into the Wild' and Sean Penn's subsequent spellbinding film adaptation of the same name which was shot on the actual locations. McCandless represented the realism of escaping the modern world and the joys and dangers that lie outside of society's safety nets.
