Intrepid explorers who brought us the world
Ranulph Fiennes (1944-)
Fiennes, or if we're being specific Sir Ranulph Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes, 3rd Baronet, OBE, is one of the modern world's most eminent adventurers. Along with Charles R Burton, he spearheaded the infamous Transglobe Expedition – the first journey to circumnavigate the globe from pole to pole, vertically.
He was also the first man to visit the north and south poles by surface means. Furthermore he was the first to cross the Antarctica on foot. Fiennes even climbed Everest aged 65. Prior to that, but just after a heart attack and double bypass surgery, he completed seven marathons in seven days on seven continents.
