Vincent Price – ‘Edward Scissorhands’ (1990)
Tim Burton’s blackly comic drama was a fitting end for an actor who had become famous for his gothic horror roles (‘The Pit and the Pendulum’, ‘The House of Wax’) and for his cackling, evil laugh (Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ video).
Burton lured him out of semi-retirement to play an inventor who creates his misunderstood beast, Edward Scissorhands (Johnny Depp). In addition to placing Price in his preferred genre, it also granted him one of his more tender, heartbreaking roles as a father figure to his creation. Fittingly, his final scene ever recorded on film is his poignant death scene.
