Final cut: Unforgettable screen swansongs
Brandon Lee – 'The Crow' (1994)
Brandon Lee was just carving an acting career for himself as well as trying to distance himself from the shadow of his father’s legacy. His father was, of course, martial arts legend Bruce Lee. Brandon signed on to a brooding, grungy, fantastical thriller – Alex Proyas’ ‘The Crow’ – a film with lashings of jet black style and gritty substance.
However, a prop gun which was meant to be loaded with blank cartridges actually fired a live primer, sending a real bullet hurtling into Lee’s spine. He died hours later. ‘The Crow’ went on to become a cult classic and a far greater cinematic work than any of his father’s roles. Bruce Lee’s swansong was the kung fu classic ‘Enter the Dragon’.
