Nearly one quarter of Britons are obese and that figure only looks likely to expand with their waistlines.

In the 10 years from 1994 to 2004 the level of obesity in British children rose by an alarming 40 per cent. Only eight per cent of Italians are obese and 12 per cent of Germans.
