In August 1995, Klaus Schmidt burst into a Berlin bank, whipped out a gun and shouted "Give me the money!" When terrified staff asked if he wanted a bag, he replied "You bet it's a real gun!"

Realising Schmidt was deaf, the cashier set off the alarm, saying later, "It was ridiculously loud, but he didn't seem to notice." Within minutes the police arrived and arrested Schmidt.
