Chelsea took the lead through a Zola free kick before Chris Sutton equalised seven minutes later. Chelsea retook the lead after a Leboeuf penalty but Blackburn equalised again through Perez.

Perez was then sent off after an altercation with Graeme Le Saux. Chris Sutton converted a penalty to give Blackburn the lead. Chelsea then introduced Tore Andre Flo who equalised four minutes after coming on and he then won the game for Chelsea with a goal two minutes from time.
