The magnificent Mini
1957 original model

The Mini designer, Turkish-born Alec Issigonis, drew the first sketch on a napkin in a restaurant. His brief was a car no more than 10ft long to fit four adults and luggage.

Issigonis, who was knighted in 1969, gave his design the code name Mosquito.
