The 1977 Formula 1 world champion, bravely returned to the sport after sustaining substantial injuries in one of the most dramatic crashes in Formula 1 racing history.

During the German GP in 1976, a rear suspension failure forced Lauda off the track. His Ferrari crashed, rolled back and collided with Brett LungerÂ’s SurteeÂ’s Ford and burst into flames with Lauda trapped inside.

Two months later Lauda was back racing. And the following year he won the championship for the second time.
