The animal kingdomÂ’s biggest myths
Are bats really blind?
ItÂ’s a popular phrase to describe the visually impaired, but bats arenÂ’t really blind. For a start, theyÂ’ve got eyes (albeit small ones) that operate very well at night or in caves.
They also use their sight to navigate during the day. Some can even detect ultraviolet lights that humans cannot, but it’s their ears that are really impressive – they can emit high-pitched squeaks and use the reflected sound waves to locate prey and navigate even further.
