In January 2004 pop singer Britney Spears married Jason Alexander, a childhood friend from her home in Louisiana. Both were 22.

The singer wore jeans and a baseball cap for the night-time ceremony at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas.

"We were just looking at each other and said, 'Let's do something wild, crazy. Let's go get married, just for the hell of it,'" Alexander said.

Their marriage was dissolved within 55 hours, with Spears branding it a "joke that had gone too far".
