Here are some basic car maintenance checks that even the girliest of girls could complete:

1. Water level - make sure you keep your windscreen wash topped up
2. Oil - Check your handbook and make sure your car doesn't need to be taken to the garage for an oil change. If not, park on a flat surface and wait a while for your engine to cool and the oil to settle. Check the level on the dipstick by removing it, wiping it with an old tissue and replacing it. Remove it again to get a correct reading on the level.
3. Keep an eye on your tyres. If you neglect them, you'll need them replaced and they can get expensive. Tyre tread needs to be a minimum of 1.6mm across three quarters of the breadth and the whole circumference of the tyre.
