The Chinese, in a daring and innovative way to solve world hunger, launched 2,000 seeds into space where they orbited the Earth before returning again.

The result was that the genetic sequence changed (and in some cases was reduced) which would alter how well the crop harvested. This meant that without adding harmful genes, giant crops could be produced and could result in potatoes like this one.
