Discovering the dresses that changed the world
The minidress – 1965
A declaration of youth, independence and freedom of 1960s London was best illustrated by the clothes of Mary Quant.
She took the slowly emerging shorter skirts of a still recovering post-war Britain and made them ever shorter, injecting life and fun back into the youth of the era. Naturally, the miniskirt had a sibling, the minidress. Suddenly bright bold colours, fun and optimism hit London's gloomy streets.
