On the other end of the scale, another wedding met with much anticipation was that of Prince Charles and his bride-to-be Diana Spencer.
Eager faces waited for a glimpse of the wedding gown, and they were not disappointed. This was an archetypal wedding gown with extras – a long flowing train that seemed to go on forever, mass of ribbons, silk, sequins and pearls – a bold moment of opulence and extravagance re-establishing the wedding gown as a fashion statement.
