Kleptomania refers to those with a compulsion to steal. Sufferers have been taking part in an eight-week treatment programme using the drug naltrexone to combat the addiction.

Minnesota University researchers said: "The proposed study will provide needed data on the treatment of a disabling disorder that currently lacks a clearly effective treatment."
