8. 'In Remembrance of Things Past' by Marcel Proust (9%)
With more than 2,000 literary characters, over 3,200 pages and being translated into English on several occasions (to a point where even the title was more accurately translated to 'In Search of Lost Time'), Proust's lengthy novel tackles the notion of involuntary memory on an in-depth scale. It was dubbed by the late iconic English playwright, W. Somerset Maugham, as the "greatest fiction to date".
