Books we have lied about reading
10. 'The Selfish Gene' by Richard Dawkins (6%)
Many of those who took part in the poll by World Book Day's website admitted that they have lied about reading the titles featured on this countdown in order to impress someone.
To begin with, 6% of those in the survey admitted that they have never read 'The Selfish Gene' - a novel about evolution that builds on the theories suggested in by George C Williams' 'Adaptation and Natural Selection'. Dawkins' proposed ideas of the meme gene within his text, which have gone on to produce many studies of Memetics as a result of his writing.
