10 things you never knew about Doctor Who
First Doctor – William Hartnell (1963–1966)
It was back in November 1963 when Doctor Who first hit our TV screens. Premiering the day after President Kennedy was assassinated, the first episode was shown again with the second installment.
It has since gone on to become a British (and abroad) cult classic, frequently drawing in millions of viewers.
And in 2009 was awarded Guinness World Records as the longest-running science fiction television show in the world as well as the most successful science fiction series of all time.
Fun fact: Hartnell trained as a jockey before deciding to ditch it in favour of acting.
