10 of the most endangered species
African wild dog - Approximately 3,000-5,500
There was a time when predators ruled supreme on the African plains. Nowadays, the African wild dog is the largest endangered predator on the continent. Hunting in packs, they locate appetising prey, be it antelopes, springbucks or zebras, and they chase them around until exhaustion.
Urbanisation is a threat to them as are human persecution and contact with domesticated animals, which transmit diseases like rabies and distemper.
