'A Hard DayÂ’s Night' (1964)
The boom period of Hollywood musicals of the early-mid 1960s was revolutionised by the British invasion of the Beatles and their groundbreaking first film, ‘A Hard Day’s Night’. Shot in documentary-esque black and white with frantic urgency, it popularised a style of independent filmmaking to the masses.
The Fab Four send themselves up brilliantly in a ridiculous plot that incorporates Paul’s mischievous granddad (better known later as Albert Steptoe in ‘Steptoe and Son’), all the while delivering hilarious one liners and occasionally breaking to deliver classic songs like the title tune and ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’.
