As with many Christmas traditions, the Pagans were responsible for the placing of mistletoe over the festive period.

They believed it had the power to give life and fertility to those who stood beneath it. It was also said to have been used in Pagan weddings.

The Scandanavians believe it stands for a truce between waring parties and that it is an emblem of Christian love and affection.
