Christmas traditions explained!
Turkey for Christmas dinner
There's nothing that shouts out Christmas Day more than the eating of the festive turkey for dinner. Brits throughout the past decades have all sat around their tables to tuck into this succulent dish - but this is a tradition that has only been around for the last 100 years.
Previously, families used to eat goose for their Christmas Day meal. Turkeys were only brought to this country from America in the 1500s and were only passed around due to their scrumtuous taste.
Henry VIII was reportedly the first to try turkey on Christmas Day, but it wasn't until the 20th century that turkey overtook goose as the favoured dish.
