What's That Watson?
Translate One2One translates foreign languages as you speak.
18:55 22 June 2017
Translate One2One, which translates foreign languages as you speak, could be a godsend for tourists struggling to communicate while abroad. According to its makers, Lingmo International, the £140 device can decode eight languages.
The device translates sentences in three to five seconds using Watson, IBM’s artificial intelligence language software. It does not require a mobile phone or Wi-Fi signal and can translate between English, Italian, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese and German. For it to work, both the speaker and listener will have to wear it.
The device is already on sale and will be delivered as early as mid-July, in time for the start of the summer holidays.
Several technology companies are also currently developing the same device with the goal to eliminate embarrassing holiday encounters. Google, on the other hand, has recently upgraded its translation software to understand full sentences.
