What are Intel's Vaunt Smart Glasses?

Intel to launch its very own smart glasses.

Intel is going to launch its very own smart glasses called Vaunt. Designed to work with both prescription and non-prescription lenses, they feature simple, lightweight plastic frames. Their weight is under 50 grams or nearly the exact weight of Snap Spectacles.

 

Appearing like regular eyeglasses, their insides contain a low-powered class one laser, processor, accelerometer, a compass and a Bluetooth chip. This laser, which Intel described as “so low-power that it’s at the very bottom end of a class one laser,” emits a red, monochrome image into your eye at 400 x 150 pixels.

 

This sends notifications from your phone, lets you know if it is someone’s birthday or if you’re in the kitchen, it can also send you recipes. In the future, Intel may equip the glasses with access to smart assistants but initially, they will be controlled through subtle motions, such as nodding of the head.

 

Intel said that the Vaunt glasses might make their way into the market through the OEM route instead of being sold by themselves. The company will also launch the early access program and SDK, opening up the platform to developers.
