Bradford Council Investigate Smart Parking

Councillors set to call on the British Parking Association to investigate Smart Parking, which was running the controversial Oastler Street car park.

Councillors are set to ask the British Parking Association to take action against Smart Parking, including revoking its membership of the Approved Operator scheme, for running the controversial Oastler Street car park. The patch of land had never legally been turned into a car park and was still part of the public highway.

 

The firm has already been shut down by the local authority and ordered to refund the money it charged to unsuspecting motorists.

 

Philip Davies, MP for Shipley, who has been helping his constituents who were hit with a fine to get their money back, said:  "I would, therefore, wish to reiterate my call for any of my constituents who were fined by Smart Parking to contact me and I will do my very best to secure them a refund.

 

"I think, at this stage, this is a more practical help to my constituents than Bradford Council’s late in the day grand virtue signalling.

 

"Perhaps the council should be refunding people who were charged when they operated the very same car park without the proper planning permission as well."
