Sunday Times is suing disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong for £1million. The paper, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., paid Armstrong £300,000 in 2006 to settle a libel action.
The Sunday Times has confirmed issuing legal papers to Armstrong in an article in its latest edition.
The letter directed to Armstrong’s lawyers reads: 'It is clear that the proceedings were baseless and fraudulent. Your representations that you had never taken performance enhancing drugs were deliberately false.'
This year, US Anti-Dopping Agency released a report, which contained detailed allegations of widespread doping by Armstrong and his teams. Because of this, the agency ordered 14 years of his career results erased.
Armstrong, who retired from cycling a year ago, was ordered to pay back all the cycling money he won while he was using performance-enhancing drugs. Not only that, he is also going to lose at least £30million in sponsorship deals over the next five years because of this scandal.
