Downtrodden Shelley Unwin is determined that plastic surgery is the only way to improve her relationship with her boyfriend in Coronation Street.
But Sally Lindsay's character is so intent on her new plans that she doesn't notice that the man she is doing it for, builder Charlie, is straying away in the meantime.
The blonde bar manager has been getting more and more depressed - to the point where she cannot even face leaving her flat to buy a newspaper.
Shelley becomes fixed on the idea that plastic surgery will make her feel better and, despite Charlie's objections, books herself into a clinic.
In the meantime, she continues to keep her distance from Charlie, played by Bill Ward - with disastrous results.
Preoccupied with her plans for surgery, Shelley fails to notice that her boyfriend is trying in on with barmaid Violet, played by Jenny Platt.
And when Violet and Charlie are left downstairs one evening while she is holed up in her flat, they have a few drinks and things begin to hot up.
They head off for a steamy night of passion, leaving Violet devastated at what she has done the next morning. How long before Shelley finds out what has been going on behind her back?
