Medway Commercial Group, which maintains CCTV cameras and operates governor services, has come under the spotlight after being accused of incompetence by opposition politicians.
Labour councillors say that the company, which has been recently put in charge of a £25million learning village in Gilingham, has shown as much through various failures in the jobs it has been given. In October, it was found the many of the cameras the company has installed were beyond repair while the councillor in charge of them has admitted last week he did not realise they were his responsibility.
MCG has responded to the accusations saying it has “exceeded” what was asked for in every aspect.
MCG was set up in 2015 following budget cuts to allow the council to continue to provide services.
Council leader Cllr Alan Jarrett said: “It was clear MCG could run services far cheaper than the council as it doesn’t have to abide by EU procurement laws.
"We pay it to run services for us, it runs them more efficiently and returns any left over money and it also gets paid to provide CCTV for other councils as well as telecare services.”
