Peggy Mitchell back
17:15 08 September 2005
Albert Square is preparing itself for an atomic blast from the past as tonight the Bow Bells banshee that is Peggy Mitchell is coming hurtling back into EastEnders.
However, Peggy, played by the inimitable Barbara Windsor, comes back to the Square to find all is not well.
Used to being the queen bee of the east end, Peggy soon realises that things have fallen apart while she has been sunning herself in Rio with son Grant.
The Mitchell clan no longer own the Queen Vic or the Arches, the invisible snooker club is cindered rubble and daughter Sam is facing jail for the murder of Dirty Den- and worst of all, Peggy is homeless.
And the proud Mitchell matriarch is not one to beg, but in this instance she has to go to arch-enemy and sexy Frank Butcher love rival Pat Butcher, in order to get a roof over her head.
Things get worse tomorrow for poor Peggy, as a confrontation with Sharon Watts in the pub leads to her having a drink thrown in her face.
Babs told the Daily Star: "I'm so excited about being back. The scripts are brilliant."
She added: "I'd like Peggy to get the pub back, but I'm not sure how she's going to do that.
"They're not even telling me what's in store for her. However, they have ordered me a suit which is very 'Peggy behind the bar', so who knows?"
