Almost a year after an £85,000 contract was signed, the WiFi service for Nuneaton and Bedworth is still not available. It has been confirmed that the contract was signed by the council on April 2017 and was hoped to go live last Christmas. The council said that the free internet access may not be ready until Easter time.
Cllr Dennis Harvey, leader at the Town Hall, said: “The preliminary work is underway and we anticipate that the system will be fully installed and tested by Easter.”
He also explained that the council has only paid the supplier a partial amount. “A contract to provide town centre Wi-Fi was agreed last year with the supplier,” the Town Hall leader said
“When entering into contracts of this nature it is standard practice to make a deposit upon signing of the contract; our supplier required such a deposit to be made before any work commenced on site
“We will pay the balance of the invoice to the supplier upon completion of the work to our satisfaction at which point the contract will formally start."
