Kat Slater has so dominated Albert Square in the last few years that Jessie Wallace will be offered her own show when she quits EastEnders.
BBC chiefs are drumming up various scripts, thought to include a costume drama, a thriller and a comedy.
Jessie is set to leave the Walford soap in October, at which point she is free to sign on for any project the BBC might offer her.
An insider told the Daily Mirror: "The BBC have high hopes for Jessie and are planning to create a star vehicle in which to showcase her talents.
"There are lots of ideas out there but Jessie wants to make sure that what she is doing is absolutely right for her career."
Kat's time on the Square has included highly dramatic storylines, including the revelation that her 'sister' Zoe is actually her daughter from an abusive relationship with her uncle.
And Kat's on-off romance with Alfie Moon, played by Shane Ritchie, kept viewers enthralled for months.
All this high drama has given Jessie the perfect grounding to move on to greater things, it is thought.
A friend of hers said: "She's interested in tackling roles which are a million miles from Kat."
