Steven Moffat, who will take over from writer Russell T. Davies when he leaves after 2009's four specials, was keen on a particular actor to take on the role according to an insider. The source told The Sun: "Moffat has worked with James on Jekyll and the talk in BBC Drama is that he's so in as the next Doctor. First a Scottish Doctor, now we could have a Northern Irish one."
