Despite an all star cast, including George Clooney as superhero Batman himself, Chris O'Donnell, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Uma Thurman and Alicia Silverstone, and being an overall financial success, it was critically panned and almost finished off the DC Comics 'Batman' franchise.

Empire magazine said the comic-book movie had "become a byword for franchise-killing and bad movie-making".

"Camp" batsuits with nipples, an "overblown script" and acting so wooden viewers were in danger of getting a splinter, have earned the comic crusader picture a place in the top spot for the most horrendous film ever made.
