Born July 7, 1940 in the small mining village of Pontypridd, Thomas Jones Woodward always felt he wanted to become a singer, reminiscing since, that "singing was like breathing to me".After leaving school Tom worked as a brick layer and salesman.

In 1957 he married childhood sweetheart Linda Trechard and the couple had son Mark together.
