Inspired by the SAS, Delta Force were formed in 1977. With a gruelling training period, less than 7% of recruits make it through the 'stress phases' of training.

They shot to fame after the actions of two of their men were portrayed in the film 'Black Hawk Down'. The two men (Sergeants Gary Corden and Randall Shughart) placed themselves between a downed chopper and a 1,000 strong militia. They succeeded in saving the pilot of the helicopter.
