The Turner prize: Is it art?
1995 - Damien Hirst - Mother and Child, Divided
Considered a curious win at the time, this piece has now established classic status in the art world. Hirst has pickled many animals in formaldehyde in his time but this pair are undoubtedly the most famous.
The exibit consists of steel, GRP composites, glass, silicone sealants, cow, calf and formaldehyde solution. Hirst shares the opinion of many when he sums the Turner prize up as "a media circus to raise money for the Tate and Channel 4."
