Lyrics from this song contain references to growing up in Middlesbrough, a town which, at the time, had much heavy industry around it. The lyrics, "I'm standing by a river, but the water doesn't flow. It boils with every poison you can think of", refers to the River Tees in the 1960s, when it was at its most polluted.
