Usmanov is the largest shareholder in the Arsenal football club with a 24.2% stake. He afforded that thanks to his fortune in steel and iron ore mines.

Recently Usmanov has been branching out, making investments in media, telecoms and banking. As a new entry this year, we'll have to see how successful these moves will prove in next year's list.
