A red-headed family from Newcastle have been forced out of two homes because of cruel taunts, physical abuse and several episodes of vandalism prompted simply by their hair colour.

Teasing those with red hair is, it seems, a form of socially acceptable racism in modern Britain. Here, we try and investigate exactly where the stigma comes from.
