The two consistent wet summers from 2007 onwards have been disastrous for the robin red breast, with the population of young birds down by 22%.

According to British Trust for Ornithology, this timescale has been the worst breeding season since the trust began collecting records in 1983. Around a quarter of all young robins were lost through either the cold or lack of food.
