A controversial winner
In 2006 the Gold Cup was won by the controversial jockey Kieren Fallon who was riding the horse Yeats. Fallon has been accused of various incidents of conspiracy to defraud.
He has also tested positive for performance related drugs but his reputation as one of the all-time greatest flat racing jockeys of all time has survived intact. An arrest, charges and trial were all squashed due to lack of evidence.
